Kochi to Munnar

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before setting out on your journey to Munnar.  Your drive will give you ample opportunity to appreciate the breathtaking scenery.  Pause at the waterfalls for which this area is famous, rest awhile on the Neriamangalam Bridge and spend some time watching the Periyar River flowing lazily on its way.  Travelling time is around four hours. Once you arrive at Munnar checkinto the resort. Relax for the rest of the day and overnight at the resort.

Munnar Sightseeing

Munnar, a tropical paradise situated at the bottom of an emerald green valley.  Three streams, Mudrapuzha, Kundale and Nallathanni make Munnar a haven of gently babbling water.  Rivers, lakes and waterfalls create an environment famous for its herbs and plants and noted for wildlife and exotic birds.  Let the tranquillity entice you out into the beautiful waterside environment.  Walk or hike, interspersing your trek with a picnic at Mattupetty Lake or climb up amongst the tea plantations to Echo Point.  Visit the Tea Gardens and learn about the tea industry at the Tea Museum before returning to the resort for the evening.

Munnar to Thekkady

After breakfast,  the day four of the tour takes you to Thekkady with its world famous wildlife reserve, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary named after the river you watched over on your arrival in India.  A huge space, Periyar provides the opportunity to view some amazing wild animals and birds up close and personal.  Take to the lake for a river cruise and float quietly towards elephants, deer and bison as they come down to the water’s edge to drink.  Rest for the night in an old style coffee planters’ bungalow, a real blast from the past.

Thekkady Sightseeing

For coffee and spice lovers, Thekkady is a haven of plantations.  Commune with nature amongst the unspoilt and organic fields, visit spice stations to understand more about the medicinal properties of these plants and the medicinal and curative role they play in Indian culture.  You will begin to experience the holistic healing effect of the calm and atmospheric slopes even before you sample a healing tonic.  If wildlife is what you really want to see, there are elephant and tiger reserves where you can walk amongst nature with your guide or take to the water and explore by boat.  Thekkady has a tiger reserve, a rarity in India.  Cruises and rafting can be booked on the day to suit your plans.  Return to a campfire meal under the Indian stars.

Thekkady to Alleppey (Houseboat)

A traditionally thatched houseboat at Alleppey awaits you on Day Six of your tour.  This is your floating home for the next 24-hours and will take you on a meandering ride through the paddy fields and backwaters of Kerala.  So many people earn their living on or beside the waterways, this is a unique glimpse of Indian rural life amongst the waving coconut palms.  Dinner on deck at the end of the day is followed by a night on the water in your comfortable cabin, the gentle ripples lulling you to sleep.

Alleppey (Houseboat) to Kumarakom

Linger awhile in Alleppey, the chance to explore further by boat or on foot before travelling to Kumarakom where a luxury room in the resort awaits you.  Kumarakom is noted for its bird sanctuary or take a trip to Vembanad Lake, a focal point for flora and fauna.
