Pathiramanal is an enchanting island on the lake that can be accessed by boat. This 10 acre island on the backwaters is home to many rare varieties of migratory birds from different parts of the world. According to mythology a young Brahmin dived into the Vembanad Lake to perform his evening ablutions and the water madeway for the land to rise from below. The island can be accessed only by boat.
Pathiramanal which literally translates as "midnight sand" is a little located in Muhamma Panchayat, Alappuzha district of Kerala. The island which is characterized by beautiful sceneries is as well a place where migratory birds from different parts of the world can be spotted.
A 28.505 ha sized island, Pathiramal is about thirteen kilometers away from Alappuzha. The distance from Kumrakom to the island is four kilometers towards the northwest. Geographically, it is 810m away from the nearest mainland.
From Pathramanal, you can see Muhamma on the Southwest and Kulakkozhi Chira on the northwest.
