Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary extends over 14 acres and is famous for varieties of migratory birds. The Sanctuary can be visited by canoes; arranged with local fishermen at the entrance to the sanctuary. A two-hour rowing canoe trip is quite cheap, and is best undertaken in the evening/early morning to avoid the afternoon sun. The bird sanctuary, set within the lush acres of wooded land nearby, acquaints one to the variety of migratory birds that flock in thousands, some from the Himalayas, and some as far as Siberia.

One can get thrilled of the native kingfishers ablaze in psychedelic colours, experience a walk under rookeries of egrets and night herons or lone golden-backed woodpeckers and even delight in the acrobatics of the paradise fly-catchers. The main attractions are local birds like the waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, heron and the water duck, and the migratory Siberian cranes. From where should I book houseboat? Is online booking authentic?Which one?

You can look at online reviews and decide on which houseboat to book in Alleppey. We would advise to optimise for experience rather than the cost and opt for a private houseboat instead of a shared houseboat. You can book houseboats from any recognized tour operator in Kerala
